Buying a Reborn
When Buying a reborn its best to look around at many different babies before settling on one.
First Like the way it looks
Obviously the first thing is you must like the way the reorn baby looks, after all if you buy it you need to know you will love to look at it and love to cuddle it for years to come. One way to ensure this is to look at the sellers pictures. Always ensure the seller shows good clear pictures of the reborn including pictures of the finer details. If you like the look of a reborn and they do not have any clear close up pictures do not be afraid to contact the seller and ask if they can take some for you.
Secondly you need to know the reborn is made with quality materials.
So make sure the seller details what weighting materials are used, the most common good quality fillings and weighting materials used are glass beads, fine glass beads, polly pellets, baby fat and fibre fill. Some will use sand, this is ok as long as they are sealed properly in pouches, however reborns with sand in cannot be shipped abroad!
Also make sure you know what paints are used, you need to ensure that the paints used are cured and therefore will not fade or rub off with a damp cloth. The most commonly accepted paints are Genesis Heat Set paints, Air-Dry Paints or Oils.
If you want to be able to pose you reborn in realistic baby poses you will need to ensure the reborn has a disc jointed body. Bodies can be made from a variety of materials such as polycotton and doe suede, all of which are perfectly ok, but just feel slightly different when you hold them.
Make sure you know whether the hair is painted, rooted or a wig. Wigged reborns are generally cheaper as they are not a realistic as rooted or painted hair. Make sure that if a reborn is rooted they state the hair type and that a good close picture is provided to show that the rooting is well done.
Make sure you have details on the reborn
If you see a reborn you like make sure that all the information on the reborn is given, i.e length, weight, has it got a magnet for a dummy, is the hair rooted, painted or does it have a wig, what filling and weighting materials are used, what limb types, does it have a jointed body. If these details are not given ensure you ask the seller before buying. Remember limb type can make a difference to the clothes you can put on your reborn, for instance full limbs are great for little girls as you can put short sleeved pretty dresses on them and they look great! Also if you are someone who would like to cuddle them a lot perhaps 1/4 limbs would be better as with less vinyl they are more cuddly. This of course is personal preference.
Make sure you know what is included!
Also make sure you know what will be coming with the reborn as many items shown in pictures are not included in the sale and are for presentation purposes only.
